The Challenge
The client travelled internationally every 2 weeks and needed reliable remote control over entry and home functions while away. The existing intercom system did not connect to the client’s phone, meaning visitors and access events could not be managed remotely.
The main technical challenge was that multiple systems were fragmented. WiFi coverage was inconsistent across the property, and blinds were controlled by separate remotes, creating a disjointed user experience.
The project required a unified solution rather than isolated upgrades. The client needed intercom access, gate control, lighting, and cameras to work together under one app with dependable connectivity for international remote access.
The Solution
Canny Electrics implemented an integrated smart home and access control setup with the following scope:
- Installed 1 new Akuvox intercom system, UniFi network, and UniFi camera system
- Installed 1 Apple HomeKit automation environment
- Unified intercom, gate access, door access, lighting, blinds, and cameras under 1 app
- Enabled remote answering of the door from anywhere in the world
- Enabled remote control of pedestrian gates, driveway gates, and main entry doors
- Configured lighting and blinds to run on “Wake” and “Good Night” scenes
